The Distinction Between the Numerous Brands of Neuromodulator in the US:
There are currently five distinct brands of neuromodulator in the US today. Botox was the first to be introduced to the US market and thus has the genericised trademark, we use that name to mean all neuromodulators- just like Klenex is often used in place of tissue paper. The neuromodulators are all quite comparable, but they each have subtle differences in properties and effects.

Average: 90-120 days

We often say that neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport last between 90 — 120 days. Keep in mind, no all of that is at peak action. Peak action occurs between 14 — 21 days from the time of injection. Muscle movement returns around the 50 day mark and continues to slowly return from that point forward. The activation process doesn't always happen evenly nor symmetrically, so it might be possible for one eyebrow to be higher than the other or for there to be some asymmetry of the face during the activation process. It can take up to 14 days for neuromodulator to completely activate and even things out.

There are of course some exceptions and considerations. Younger patients tend to go longer between treatments because they don't see wrinkles returning as quickly nor as profoundly. The muscle group treated can also make a difference. Individual body chemistry and metabolism- thinner clients tend to metabolize neuromodulator more quickly. The environment and health habits can have a profound effect on the on the activity of neuromodulator- smoking, for example, may decrease longevity. Anecdotally, I have noticed that clients who often perform strenuous exercise, hot yoga, and who run tend to need re-treatment sooner. But most importantly, its dosage that has the most profound direct effect on longevity- the more units injected the longer it will last.

How to Prepare:
To ensure the best outcomes with minimal side-effects we recommend adhering to the following schedule:

💉 Beginning at 2 weeks prior to your appointment, avoid blood-thinning medications/vitamins (after first verifying with your prescribing physician)

🌿 Beginning at 1 week prior and for up to 2 weeks following injection day, we recommend daily oral arnica montana 30c

🍷 At 2 — 3 days prior & following your appointment please avoid alcohol

🏋🏽‍♀️ At 24 hours prior & following your appointment please avoid strenuous exercise

🧴 For 1 — 2 weeks following injections you may apply arnica cream topically to the injection areas

🥶 For 48 hours following injections you may apply cool compression and sleep as upright as possible

💊 We recommend incorporating zinc 50mg into your daily supplements to help increase the longevity of your neuromodulator treatment

What to Know About Neuromodulators/Tox:

• They gradually activate over 14 days

• They are not always even or symmetric while activating (ex. one eyebrow can be higher than another for the first 14 days)

• Their full effect is between 14 — 21 days

• People feel "tightest" around 14 — 21 days

• They settle to smooth skin for another 30 days

• Movement begins to return around day 50

• They appear more "lived in" around 60 days

• Most people are ready for re-treatment between 84 — 98 days
